As Phase Three of the NFL offseason begins, teams will hold their first sessions of OTAs, which include 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills.

With that, there are still NFL talents waiting for their next contracts and to begin working with teams. One of those players is six-year veteran running back and return specialist JaMycal Hasty, who is seeking a new team to play for in the 2025 season.

Hasty, who has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and most recently the New England Patriots, has been known as a competitor and a versatile player throughout his career.

Undrafted in 2020 out of Baylor, Hasty signed by the 49ers and worked his way to the practice squad and onto the active roster in his rookie season at the age of 24.

In his first season, he made eight appearances for the 49ers in 2020 with 39 rush attempts, a total of 148 yards, and a touchdown he scored on Oct. 3 in week 8. Hasty, at 5-foot-8, has also developed into a two-way back, with the ability to be a pass-catcher. He totaled seven receptions for 33 yards that season, but it would be in year two that everything started to take off for him.

He was given an increased role in 2021, appearing in 11 games, rushing 16 times for 68 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Through the air, where Hasty primarily used, he caught 23 passes for 157 yards, and 6.8 yards per reception.

That season, Hasty suffered a high ankle sprain injury in week 2, sidelining him for a month before returning on Oct. 23. In the offseason, San Francisco rewarded Hasty by re-signing him on March 10, 2022. Still, he would release him after the pre-season.

Hasty only had to wait a day before the Jaguars picked him up off waivers, and for the first seven games of the season, Hasty worked in a backfield that featured Travis Etienne and James Robinson. Still, after the trade that sent Robinson to the New York Jets, Hasty was RB2 behind Etienne and saw his playing time increase.

Hasty went on to play in all 17 games and had career numbers rushing 46 times for 194 yards, with two touchdowns. His longest rush that season was 61 yards, and he averaged 4.8 yards per carry. In the pass game, Hasty saw another 20 receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown, and seven of those catches went for first downs.

The Jaguars brought back Hasty, but with that, there was more competition, and on Nov. 11, after only appearing in five games for Jacksonville, he was waived.

Soon after, the Patriots chose to pick up Hasty as he finished the 2023 season, having appeared in only two games for New England. This past season with the Patriots, Hasty played in 15 games, accumulating 20 rushes for 69 yards and 10 receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown on the receiving end.

Hasty’s utilization in the return game is where he thrived with New England, with 10 kickoff returns for 238 yards and his longest a 30-yard return. In his career, Hasty has 26 kickoff return attempts for 537 yards.

As Hasty awaits his landing spot for the 2025 season, His agent Scott Casterline from Team Sports Agency tells The Pulse, “Solid 3rd down option, with kick return ability, he’ll end up in a good spot,” he said.
