From Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL draft and signing a 3.7 million contract over four years, quarterback Brock Purdy got his payday and his second NFL contract.
Purdy and his agent, Kyle Strongin from Range Sports, agreed to a five-year $265 million contract with $181 million in total guaranteed money, including $165.5 million in the first three years of his deal, Tom Pelissero reported.
Purdy’s contract, which runs through 2030, will pay him $55 m in the first three years. Purdy made his NFL debut on Dec. 11, 2022, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady. In a 35-7 win, Purdy finished with 185 yards passing, 16-for-21, two touchdown passes, and zero turnovers.
The new contract makes Purdy the seventh-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, with names like Josh Allen and Joe Burrow.
In his two and a half seasons as an NFL starting quarterback, Purdy is 23-13, with a 4-2 playoff record, including two NFC Championship appearances and taking San Francisco to Super Bowl 58.
Since 2023, Purdy has had the highest rate of pass attempts of more than 15 yards, at 18.4%. Purdy has defined the odds for players drafted on day three of the NFL draft and those selected in the seventh round, especially as the last pick.
The combined earnings from Mr. Irrelevants from 2001-2024 are $51.6 million. Purdy will make more with the new contract in a single season, via Pro Football Reference and Spotrac.
In the first three seasons, Purdy has totaled 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. In his rookie season, he shined, earning a Pro Bowl selection while accumulating 4,280 yards and 31 touchdown passes. He led the NFL in touchdown percentage at (7.0) per attempt (9.6) and had a passer rating of (113).
The 49ers and general manager John Lynch prioritized paying Purdy, parting ways with wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Jordan Mason, and letting Dre Greenlaw, Leonard Floyd, Javon Hargrave, Talanoa Hufang and Charvarius Ward all walk.
Coming off a 6-11 season, their first losing season since 2020, the 49ers, according to the recent 2025 schedule release, have the NFL’s easiest schedule based on 2024 win percentages.
San Francisco is revamping its roster, and it will rely on Purdy to bring the team back to the playoffs and the top of the NFC East.
